Liberty v National Security

There is just nothing, it seems, that you can’t get away with these days if you invoke ‘National Security’, and the latest excess on the part of the federal government is an effort to allow the indefinite detention without trial of U.S. citizens, passed by the Senate in the guise of the National Defence Authorisation Act.  You can read more about the Act and its rather disturbing implications at a new blog being started up by Mahendra Prasad, a PhD student in the Political Science Department at Berkeley who researches voting systems.  The Beanpole Chronicles promise to provide an enlightening and trenchant commentary on this and other political matters.  Do have a look.
